It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.
-Charles Darwin
The world is changing. Is your business ready for it?
Change is a constant and dealing with it is rarely easy or simple. Every change is an opportunity for the new order and a threat for the existing one. Demagogues have used changes to win power by promising simple solutions, statesmen have lost their lives trying to tell the truth. Billion dollar companies have faced extinction, while new unheard companies have come up to rule their respective industries. Some have endured while others have faded away. Change is difficult, and dealing with it is hard work.
Most businesses are grappling with fast paced change within their industry or their organisation. Most often large sums of money are spent on change management projects. However, it is extremely complex to deal with change in a dynamic environment. It is like trying to fix a moving car. This is naturally stressful and creates multiple challenges for both the leaders and their teams. Research suggests that on average 1 in 4 change initiatives fail over the long-term.
How can the leader help deal with change successfully? One of the key challenges for change programs is the cultural resistance to change. Agility and adaptability are critical for successful implementation of change. The importance of creating a buy-in and helping employees develop the resilience cannot be stressed enough. The question is how?
Christoph Glaser, one of the Directors of WFEB and a leadership trainer, adds,””To actually BE the change we want to see in the world, seems to me the biggest challenge of all. The WFEB aims to be a platform for leaders to move in this direction and create collective action for a brighter and sustainable future! It see it as an honour and privilege to be part of this collaborative effort and I look much forward to meet with likeminded people from around the world to make this world a better place.”
