Prof. Dr. Fahri Saatcioglu, Professor for Molecular and Cell Biology, Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo, Norway
Fahri Saatcioglu is professor in molecular and cell biology at the Department of Biosciences at the University of Oslo, as well as a senior scientist at Oslo University Hospital, Norway. His research focuses on basic molecular and cell biology of cancer cells, in particular prostate and breast cancer, including translational research based on these findings. His laboratory has cloned and characterised a number of novel genes that encode proteins that have a role in cancer development. Prof. Saatcioglu has also been interested in the biological effects and physiological mechanisms of lifestyle interventions, such as yoga and yogic breathing exercises, and conducts research in these areas. He has given invited lectures in Norway as well as internationally (Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, India, Turkey, USA) on this and related topics in various settings, such as scientific conferences, policy making conferences, workshops for banks and multinational companies, medical schools, etc. Depending on the venue and the audience, some of the topics he discusses within a scientific paradigm are stress management for health, wellness, and job performance; evidence based traditional practices for prevention as well as adjunct tools for therapy; epigenetics and neuroplasticity – mediums of change; yogic practices for sports performance, etc.
