Mr. G. M. Rao, a mechanical engineer, is the Founder Chairman of the GMR Group, the Bangalore based global infrastructure developer. The GMR group is now a professionally managed infrastructure developer with focus on Airports, Energy, Transportation and Urban Infrastructure including SEZs. To give back to society, he set up GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, to channelize funds for social causes. He has also been serving on the Central Board of Directors of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and is the recipients of multiple awards and honorary doctrates.
