Professor for Molecular and Cell Biology, Department of Biosciences, University of Oslo, Norway
Fahri Saatcioglu is professor at the Department of Biosciences at the University of Oslo, head of the Section for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as researcher at the Division of Surgery and Cancer Medicine, Oslo University Hospital, Oslo, Norway.
He is also a visiting scientist at Harvard School of Public Health, Boston. His research focuses on basic molecular and cell biology of cancer cells, in particular prostate, ovarian and breast cancer, including translational research based on these findings. His laboratory has cloned and characterized a number of novel genes, which encode proteins that have a role in cancer development in vitro and in vivo.
The work of his laboratory has contributed significant new knowledge into androgen signaling, its interactions with other central signaling pathways, and its role in prostate cancer development. He is also interested in the biological effects and physiological mechanisms of evidence based traditional practices, in particular yoga and yogic breathing exercises, how they may affect health and wellness, and conducts research in these areas.
